October 2007 Gathering for Sangeetha and John
On October 19-21, Sangeetha and John Kelly hosted an intimate celebration of their marriage. In the Hudson Valley near Newburgh, New York, as summer finally was changing to fall, get-togethers took place in bed and breakfasts, restaurants, and especially on a paddlewheel boat chartered for the occasion.
The celebrants were Veronica and Lourdes Lourdesamy (who came from Malaysia, and brought beautiful saris for the women -- see photo above); Julie Kelly, Nikos and Nes Nafploitis; Nancy and Dan Dryden, Jessica and Brian Winnestaffer (making a stop on their way back from Europe to Alaska), Daniel Dryden and Renee Howard; Tom Korns and Kathy Buto, Jenny (coming from Australia!) and Katie Korns; Bob, Lin, and Sean Korns; Stephen Korns, Susan and Emma Jahoda, and Dana; Bob Levine (who, as best man, gave a beautiful toast -- see photo at right); Tim, Emma, and Clare Stoner; Teddi Zehner; Fran McGinnis and Larry Biond; Skip, Betty, and Rob Albright; Ellen Ussery; and Meng and Camilo Parra.
Sangeetha and John look forward to, over time, celebrating "one-on-one" with many other friends and family, by visiting them wherever they are or by inviting them to their small but cozy house in Lawrence, Kansas.
A Toast from Julie, Mother of the Groom
"I'd like to offer a toast to my son and his beautiful wife, Sangeetha. It is indescribably wonderful to have all of the family and extended family here for this special celebration .... including the newest members, Veronica & Lourdes, all the way from Malaysia. I'd like also to include those loved ones who are here in spirit -- John's father and step-father, Norm and Warren .... and his beloved grandparents, Gammy and Grandpa. I'm sure they are smiling down on us right now. When Mother Teresa received her Nobel Prize, she was asked, 'What can we do to promote world peace?' She replied, 'Go home and love your family.' We are all blessed."
A Poem by Stephen Korns, for Sangeetha and John
This part of it
pairs of things.
I can glimpse the treasure of it in you two also.
This part of all of it
one plus one equals one
and yet two, and three
and at the same time zero.
It is also like a dream sometimes, and today
it is like the pair of sky and rain,
causing things to grow.
What parts of life will be unlocked by your union?
What secrets will be revealed?
All of us who are a part of you are eager
to see how you two grow and prosper,
growing deeper in love and knowledge.
